ABOUT ALEX

Hailing from New York City, author and musician Alex York brings you—and the world—the freshest, most entertaining English education. His motto is simple: You can be a master communicator!

Alex oversees and personally teaches at his online Alex York English Academy, where students learn natural, native English as well as immerse themselves in the culture of the English-speaking world.

Seeking communication that transcends borders, Alex launched into studies of Japanese, French, and Italian languages at Yale University. There, he was awarded academic distinction for his graduation thesis on cultural exchange in Japanese and English literature.

Alex’s unique English versions of Japanese classic songs have lead to collaborations with major forces in the Japanese entertainment industry: Pokémon, famed producer Yasushi Akimoto, Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra, and more. His works have hit the top 10 on multiple charts, including Japan’s Oricon charts and iTunes’ Japan charts.

Alex also loves communicating with his audience through the written word. He has written professionally for Newsweek in his native English, as well as for major magazine President Family—in fluent Japanese. Alex’s English learning text, Momotaro wo Utau dake de Eigo ga Hanaseru  (Sing Momotaro, Speak English) has been released to critical and commercial acclaim, via major Japanese publisher Kadokawa.

Online, Alex teaches English learners authentic English straight from the streets of New York, plus etiquette and trends unique to the English-speaking world. He has captured the hearts of his followers, who total over 300,000 on social media.

Alex has also appeared numerous times on Japanese television, where he has charmed viewers with his polite Japanese language skills and lovable persona. His segments, which range from interviews of legendary stars like X JAPAN and the Backstreet Boys to Alex’s hit food review episodes, have consistently ranked among the highest viewership on Japanese TV channels like Fujisankei.

Always feeling a special connection to Japan, Alex donates a portion of his profits to disaster relief efforts in that country.
